Revamping kitchen with a mate at the moment.
Please help me choose the finishing touches. That's plinths and splashback.
The colour scheme:
2 options I like...
Anyone tried those IKEA panels?

How easy are they to cut? I have a windowsil by the sink so I need something there too.
Or any other ideas please?

The colour scheme:
- cream walls in that special kitchen and bathrooms paint.
- gloss cream tiled floor
- gloss cream cabinet doors
- cocobolo woodgrain matt worktop.
2 options I like...
- steel effect plinths and steel effect IKEA Fasbo panels
- gloss cream plinths and cream pattern IKEA Fasbo panels.
- cocobolo upstands and only a cooker splashback (steel).

Cocobolo is what colour? my kitchen units are maple, and we've got black splashbacks all the way round to match the worktops in a shiny granite effect. the plinths(under the base units) are wooden flooring the same as my kitchen floor attached to the legs of the units with special fixings cos i wasn't going to pay the price of plinths. I think metal will mark with fingerprints so i'm not really fussed on that style.0

It sounds very light - would an injection of colour liven it up a bit? I find stainless steel quite hard work in the kitchen - how about a darker plinth and a row of rectangular tiles for a splashback in a more dramatic colour like plum?0

There might be some tips here
http://mydeco.com/the-magazine/articles/how-to-use-colour-in-your-kitchen/If you don't leap, you'll never know what it is to fly :heartpuls0 -
I got my local friendly glass merchant to cut me some thick glass panels to size, including the holes for fixings and the gaps to accommodate the existing electrical fittings ... whenever you want to update, you just take off the glass panels and change the paint colour on the wall behind. They are held in place with bathroom mirror screw fixings.
You need to be accurate in your measurements though!
Good luck0 -
Don't use gloss plinths as they are a !!!!!! when your feet/hoover/kids toys hit them as they chip and you notice it more. What about either walnut plinth or wenge?I love my New Year's day baby girl Olivia xx:happyhearxx0

Thanks for all the tips.
Mull, Cocobolo is a mid toned stripey wood. Mine is laminate from Wickes. Bottom left photo:

Agree that steel shows marks. I'm re-using my steel appliances. Was thinking of the Ikeas steel panel which isn't steel at all!
I want to avoid colour expect in freestanding accessories bec I want to get in as much light as possible and also may want to sell my home in the near term.
That glass option (nice) would be too expensive...
mnfoxy, I only thought of plinths in gloss cream or steel effect but your wood option is appealing. I have lots of strips of cocobolo wood laminate left over.
My main problem is that I have a curved base unit. Was hoping to avoid buying that curved plinth as it's pricey.0 -

PWS (kitchen manufacturer) make flexible plinths I have attached a link for the american walnut version if memory serves me right you can get it for about £85 a 2.5m lengthI love my New Year's day baby girl Olivia xx:happyhearxx0 -
PWS don't do cocobolo which is a shame.
Went with gloss cream in the end...despite the warning it chips.0 -
