You should be able to claim income support, Council Tax and Housing Benefit if your income over a period is quite low. There's also tax credits depending on circumstances.

If you can only do a few days ina blue moon then is it worth continuing? Would you be better phoning up HMRC and ending your self employment and then getting ESA?

On what grounds do you suggest the OP claim IS on?

They are not disabled, a carer or a single parent from the OP and those are the main routes onto IS today.

The GP has also refused a fitnote, so no ESA either.

On the grounds that their income is below the minimum amount the law says you need to live on in the Social Security Act. Whilst what you listed are the main routes in, they're not the exclusive routes in. He can't claim JSA unless he looks for another job. He can't claim ESA because he's working.

My parents have claimed IS in the past when business has been really carp over a prolonged period.

In the past, yes. today no, why dont you check your facts before posting wrong information?

It might not matter on this thread but people read these threads for years after the last post is made and people might think that your information is correct when its totally wrong, we had a lady here yeasterday convinced that she would get the same ammount as she does on IS if she fails the new IB tests made up of JSA+IS to make up what the law said that she needed to live on for the same reason as you have posted on this thread but the last goverment made sure that it shut these loop holes.
