  • I have just installed this in my house http://www.radflek.com/ £14.99 delivered for a 6 radiator pack.

It is approved by the Government, testing has been shown to reduce heat loss to outside walls.

All my rads are on outside walls - BUT all the house walls have cavity filling

Is it worth putting this foil behind the rads??

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Mortgage-free Glee!
I've had cavity wall insulation put in this year and new radiators. I only moved in in April though so haven't had the heating on yet.

I've still bought a roll of the radiator reflective stuff and put behind the rads that are on outside walls.

the insulation is so cheap from B&Q that it's worth it for me anyway, to try it.

I also used the stuff to insulate the back walls of my garage where the washing machine etc is. It's only a single skin wall of course and i don't want the washing machine icing up
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j

I always thought it was a waste of time till I used an infra-red thermometer on the other side of the wall from the radiator. Could clearly "see" the heat from the radiator. I used foil bubble wrap behind ours, and the wall behind is much cooler and I can't "see" it from the other side now. I have only used it on outside walls and the wall to our integrated garage (the one I tested). I'm sure the difference is small, but it definitely makes a difference.
    HTH, Brian.
Yes, foil bubble wrap makes sense. It is an insulator and would work about the same without foil - unfortunately the idea that 'radiators' radiate and you need foil to reflect the heat is so deeply ingrained that to attempt to sell the same product without foil would probably cut sales by 60%.

Wow thanks to you all. Lots of information here to guide me.
Guess I'll be hitting the DIY shops over the weekend!
    Thanks again
  • Kitchen foil on corrugated cardboard does the job fine for the cheapest option - that's what my dad did but it does look amateurish!
