Union complaints procedure

Hi all,
Ill try to keep this brief as it's not strictly a money saving issue, but there are some savvy peeps on here who might have an idea of what to do next.
My missus has had a redundancy notice a while back, though the PCT seem to want to reddeploy staff rather than pay out. As she is a reasonably high grade (and therefore trickier to redeploy) she would like her union (I wont name them yet) to show a little more interest eg answer her questions, actually attend meetings, individual consultations and generally represent her not cosy up to HR. She's sent emails suggesting she is not happy with the service but noone seems to listen. Therefore we have no faith in their complaints procedure so my first question is does anyone know if there is an ombudsman type figure in the union world who can give them a loving boot up the proverbial?
Also if they continue with this poor service can she employ a solicitor instead and then deal with them after?
For my own sanity help me!! Even Im getting fed up of saying every night 'I dont know why youre in a union theyre all useless' and you will make my missus happy again.

The union should have head office contact details on their website give these people a call on Monday explaining your issues with your wifes union rep and I am sure this should resolve your concerns. However if this fails then complain straight to the General Secretary of the union via email and hopefully this will get things moving. Unions can be very helpful when they accompany you to meetings with your employers but sometimes they can be inundated with requests for rights of representation which can cause delays.0
