Child tax credit help

Hi, this is my first post on this forum, and I am hoping someone can help me.
I recieved a bank statement about two weeks ago and on inspecting it noticed that my last child tax credits had been paid on 28 August. I rang the helpline and was informed that it had been stopped because my son had reached 16 years, and they had wrongly assumed that he was no longer in full time education (I was never contacted regarding this). anyway I was told that I would have to make a new claim and they would send me out the application pack. I filled out the forms last Thursday.
My husband is on JSA and had to ring the jsa to find out how much benefit he had recieved for the year ending Apr 2010. I put the figure on the form and sent it off.
The next day I decided to complete my husbands SA tax return (he was previously self employed), as I now had his figures for how much benefit he had recieved. When i had completed it I was shocked to see that he owed nearly 600 pound tax for the year, as he has been on JSA for the full year with no other income, I knew this couldn't be right.. He rung up the benefits office again to confirm the figure he had been given, and found out that instead of being told the amount he had recieved just for the tax year they had told him the amount for the whole of his claim.

What I am worried about is that I have put this figure on the CTC form and signed it as being true. I have tried ringing them to correct it but have not yet got through. Will I be in trouble, will they just correct it for me or will they send me out another application pack.
We are already overdrawn because of this and it is just costing me more everyday it goes on:(

I don't understand. You took a month to realise you hadn't received a child tax credit payment?(you got the statement 2 weeks ago........roughly the end of September?)
If your husband is entitled to income based JSA (which he must be as contribution based only lasts 26 weeks) how are you managing to live without noticing the loss of child tax credit sooner?

Nannytone , i read this post earlier on today and i have to admit that the first thing i thought was "oh my word ,how can she NOT miss her tc payments for almost a fortnight !".

Im usually waiting for mine to arrive in my account and if they didnt i would sure as hell notice it within an hour never mind a couple of weeks !

The award notice you received when you did your annual declaration for 09/10 would have shown that the claim was only from 06/04/2010 to 31/08/2010 and they would have expected you to let them know that your child was staying on at school.

Now that you have made a new tax credit claim you have to wait for it to go into payment and then give them the correct information.
Similarly your husband can write to his tax office and ask for an amendment to be made to his tax return. If you aren't sure what needs done them make an appointment at your local HMRC enquiry centre and ask for help there. They can help with both problems.

BTW did you tell Child Benefit that your child was staying on at school because they may have stopped too.
