DW Sports refund not refunded!

About a month ago I bought a pair of trainers from DW sports but returned them a few days later(I didnt have time to try them on at the time and they didnt fit!)
All seemed fine and as they didnt have the trainers in my size they said they would refund. They told me the only way they could do it was to put it back on the card I had paid for the trainers with...is this normal?
As I had the card with me it wasnt a problem and they guy gave me a reciept indicating that the money had been returned to my account.
It is now a month later and the money hasnt gone into my account. Should I just be a bit more patient or should I go back and see them?
What can I say or do to prove the money hasnt gone into my account? I dont really want to show them my bank statements, but is there any other way to prove the money hasnt made it into my account? Where do I stand?

  • Hi there, I'm sorry if this isn't that helpful.

Yes, they are entitled to put the money back onto the card, I've heard numerous people saying its to prevent money laundering, whether that's true or not is a different mattert. iI a number of places that's the only way they can do it and because they aren't required by law to give you a refund they could have refused. As for the bank statement, unfortunately that's the only way you can prove to them that the money hasn't gone onto your account.

Now, Usually when a refund is initiated, it can take up to 5 working days for that to arrive on your card, depending on various circumstances, at a push I would even say two weeks, however, you have had to wait a month, I would contact their customer service line first of all as they may be able to do something over the phone, I wouldn't head straight into the store as there might not be much they can do without the customer service teams authorisation.

Absolutely standard practice, yes. In fact I think they would be in breach of their merchant agreement if they did anything else.
  • Ok, well I dont have an issue with the money going back on the card I just hadnt come accross it before. Was just curious if this was the norm.

I'll try calling their customer services later on today if I get a chance and see what they say.

    Thanks for your replies :)
