O2 Visa Pre-Pay 'Holding Charge' aka Security Check!

My son recently obtained an o2 Visa pre-pay card for use when buying online. He used Amazon to purchased an MP3 download @ a cost of 69p knowing he had enough funds but was surpised to receive an e-mail telling him that his O2 Visa card had been rejected.
He called Nat West who administer the Visa card and was informed that Amazon add an extra 99p to be placed on 'hold' to confirm that the card is valid everytime a purchase is made. You can see a problem if he uses the card several times! He was also told that the 'hold' is for 14 working days before it will be released back into his account.
I spoke to Amazon and as far as they are concerned the hold is for 5 days only and it is Nat West that 'hold' the charge for the extra time. I had not known about this 'holding' charge and it is not mentioned on the o2 Money web page.
On doing some research it seems that he is not the first to fall foul of these hidded charges. I think this should be made very clear on the web site.

So put an extra £10 on the card to cover this.
