As for Santander they do FP's up to £300 for manual payments and £1000 for standing orders.
    .

Well if you want to get technical, they don't allow your first payment to be sent by faster payment, it goes by bacs, and you can't do faster payments online, you have to call the call centre and ask them to put it thought as one.:D

I'm with Alliance & Leicester (now part of Santander) and can vouch that Faster Payments do indeed work - even for Standing Orders. However, the first payment to a new recipient is never via Faster Payments so you would need to bear that in mind.

As for not receiving a statement, are you sure you didn't opt out of paper statements?

Whenever I've got a new account, I monitor it very closely for the first month so that I ensure that I know when statements are produced and payments are required - just in case they go missing in the post. Doesn't help you now, but something to think of in the future.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

First payment correct, it will go via BACS. Others can be done online providing you stay within the limits. You don't need to use a call centre.

EG. 30mins ago I sent £250 from Lloyds to Santander and then immediately back again - total time taken approx 1 minute online, no call centres involved!
  • Well I received a letter saying "Thank you for choosing to pay by DD" on 29th September and the payment was due on the 8th October so I assumed that all was OK. Reading it again it does state "Keep paying us as normal until your DD is set up" but as I couldn't pay them by my preferred method I thought that would be plenty of time for the DD to become active.

Will I have to call Capital One again in order to get the bank details to make a transfer as their bank details don't appear in any obvious places on their website?

As I mentioned I'm more concerned with repairing my credit than paying the £12 charge but I'm really not confident of having this resolved through one of their call centres.

So yes, you were too late as the statement had already been issued by then.

Payment details for all Capital One cards - SORT 400250 / ACC -81077082 as detailed on all paper and e-statements and in their FAQ's. So all in all, in very obvious places.

If you want it resolved you'll have to ring them. I've never had a problem with calling them.

Well i just did exactly the same thing, RBS to Santander, and it arrived in seconds, and now i have to wait 4 days for it to go back. And i know its not the fault of the RBS account, because it arrives in seconds if i sent it from a hsbc account i have.

Just called them, lovely experience, first adviser put the phone down on me, when i challenged her for saying it was RBS's fault.

Second one told me, the system decides automatically whether or not to send it by faster payments, so its like goin in the lottery really.

I've never had one go by faster payments...ever. I guess you are one of the lucky ones.

I have an account with Santander and have sent loads of payments and I think it's only once been sent instantly that I can remember, usually takes days, but always instant when I send from BOS.
