Insurance question
Options
Just wanted to pick people's brains about car insurance!
My old bomb has just gotten its MOT for another year (followed the tip to go through the Council testers yippee) & my car tax is due in January & my insurance is due next month
BUT I am due to go home to Australia for 6 weeks from Nov-Jan & want to know if there is a way I can save buying the insurance until January, as I can leave the car off-road & it will not be driven. It will have current MOT & car tax during this time.
What are my options if I want to save money when I am not using the car?? I feel very grrr about paying the evil insurance companies money to insure my car which will just be sitting there
Thanks in advance, Edwina

Depends who you are insured with. Some will ask you to renew the policy and will LAY the policy up for the period you are away.
Some may give you a refund. Some may not. It will not be refunded until the end of the policy year though.0 -
as long as the vehicle is off public access land (which does include things like supermarket carparks) and is not going to be driven then there is no legal requirement for it to be insured.
Even if you do keep it off the road you may want to consider getting Fire and Theft insurance on it for the time you are away - ie without the third party risk elementAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

hi & thanks for the replies
i'll check with my insurer about what their practice is. i'll also check with dvla etc to confirm that if its mot'ed & taxed then i can let it sit there for the period.

Just think what situation you will be in if it gets stolen, broken into or torched while you are away and it's uninsured.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
