won auction - but having issues, advice please

Hi all, i'm after some advice on an auction i won.

Item number: 7130735028

i won this set of golf clubs last wednesday evening. I payed straight the way via paypal. Within about 20 minutes i recieved an email from the guy thanking me for the prompt payment and that my clubs would be sent friday. I was a little disapointed that he wasn't gonna send them on thursday, but decided not to worry about it.

fast forward to tuesday, still haven't got my clubs. sent an email to the seller asking if they did indeed get sent friday and when should i expect them. Recieved a prompt reply from the seller stating there had been a delay in the courier and they were sent monday. So i emailed the seller back politely expressing my disapointment and i asked what the courier name was and if there was a tracking number.

jump to today, i still haven't recieved the clubs or a reply to my request about a courier. I sent another email around 12pm asking were my clubs were and why my last email got ignored. I still haven't recieved any replies.

can anyone offer any advice? I did some digging and the users email address was for a computer company down south, i ran than company name through companies house and it came up as desolved last september.

i have a nasty feeling i've been ripped off....

i dont think he would have contacted you at all had he been intending to rip you off?

try not to look on the downside
i have sold stuff on ebay before and had probs getting stuff posted on occasion
maybe he just lied about sending them on monday and feels a bit crap about it

am sure they will turn up
if not - u can always claim your money back via paypal

    :)
  • Hi
Looking at his feedback, he is by no means a regular seller, so it is not like his "company" were an ebay selling company.
He has got 100% and has been a member for over 2 years, so nothing (obviously) worrying there.
Personally, I would not normally be worrying if I had not received an item a week after I bought it, but as he was supposed to couriering the clubs maybe that is some reason for concern. Has the courier possibly been around when you have not been in?
The seller could well have issues - personal or PC related that have prevented him from contacting you.
Can you get his contact info. off eBay? If you complain to eBay they will tell you to try and contact the seller yourself.
Sorry for rambling a bit, have been typing as I think!

People do work, and aren't tied 24/7 to the net. Can't see any problems with this, they may have been away for the weekend etc etc.
  • we have had couriers booked to take large items on a mondays --- they came on a wednesdays .

There are a couple of things which I would have questioned about this auction.

First thing is the photo. It doesn't look to be a photo of the actual clubs themselves. It looks much more like a photo taken from say a catalogue website. However, this is not uncommon on EBay, as some people don't own digital cameras so can't obviously take their own photos.

The second thing is that although the buyer has 139 feedback, only 9 of these are from buyers. He is mainly a buyer himself and has not sold an awful lot of stuff.

Don't read too much into this though as I am very cautious when buying from EBay!

It's certainly not unusual for couriers to take anywhere between 3 - 14 days to deliver an item like this, and he hasn't actually specified which courier he is using.

Regarding the emails, he may not be ignoring you. Not everyone checks their email every day and it could just be the case that he hasn't been on his PC for a few days.

There is also a chance that he does not actually have the clubs and is actually using a drop ship company to deliver them to you. In which case this could well take longer.

If you are worried then I would pull the seller's contact details and give him a call. If he is genuine then he will be happy to help. If you cannot get through within a couple of days then start to worry.

You have paid by Paypal so you can start a Paypal chargeback to reclaim your money if the worst comes to the worst.

I'd give it a bit more time, like someone else said not everyone checks their emails everyday and there could be a genuine reason why you've not received them.

Give him another week and if you still have no clubs and no replies to your emails then give him a call...

I just pop in now and then.... :)

thanks for all the advice, i did recieve an update yesterday eveing :
Sorry been out of office since yesterday morning, we use a local courier who is generally reliable, but he had a problem collecting last week, the clubs should be with you shortly, there's not much else I can tell you.

    Best regards

hopefully he is genuine and everything will be fine, its just i have a funny feeling about this one.

I'll sit tight for now and see what develops, although i might email him back and ask if he can chase his courier. if i'd have known it would have been this long i would have bought from someone else :(
