Confused about - Economy 7 electric meter

  • Update....

Today my old electric economy 7 meter has been changed to a standard meter, I rang npower, and explained that i had been billed on the wrong tariff, as was suggested to me. They have agreed to change the tariff from December upto today, and will advise me of the credit that is due to me.

I am really pleased with the service from npower, i have read lots of stories of very bad services and experiences, but i must just say that for me the people i have spoken to each time i have rang have been very knowledgeable and helpful to me. I had my call answered within 2-3 rings - all in all very positive.

The advisor suggested i do a comparison for the best tariff, which i have just done and signed upto the online 20 (I think it is called).

Many thanks to all who advsed me.

    Hi dizzy-di,

Thats good news since these issues can be more difficult to resolve since they are less common. So, it sounds like you have spoken to someone who has dealt with them before.

I would just stress that they hopefully will have made notes on your account but be aware that a meter change is a back office operation and it's likely that they could miss the note and just action the meter change from E7. This would then mean your bill will show E7 again. So, at worst you may have to check the next bill and ask them to rebill it on standard rates. Hope you took names just incase?

The only other thing I can think of is that they could view it as a faulty timeswitch case and attempt to rebill you at say 30% off peak rate. This is less common at the moment with this Supplier, but if it happens and you are worse off, just point them in the direction of the agreement you made with their call centre. If you have E7 but don't have heating attached, the night rate should still move as the day dial stops recording in the E7 off peak times, but in your case either the timeswitch has been faulty for some time or most likely an engineer disabling the night rate - an old fashioned non compliant method!

They are usually pretty much in favour of leaving these things in the customers favour if possible since working out true usage in these circumstances is impossible.
