What Does This Mean (ebay Scam???)

Hi.

i was looking through ebay at the golf items as usual, to try to get a bargain and i came upon a auction selling a ping G5 golf club, the golf club was described as new and was an unwanted gift. the item was new on so i don't think it was more than a hour or 2 old on the site.

anyway, the driver in shops costs around £199 pounds and was for sale as a buy now for £50. knowing what i do i asked the seller why they were selling for £50 when the club is worth at least £150. i received an email from ebay saying

Our records indicate that you recently sent an email to or received an email from (ebay id was listed here) through the eBay email system (for example, you may have sent an email to this member through Ask Seller a Question or received an email from this member through Contact eBay Member).

Sometimes eBay accounts are used to send email solicitations for transactions outside of eBay, or to send unrelated questions in hopes that you will respond so that the other party can obtain your email address. We wanted you to be aware of the potential fraud risk these solicitations pose and encourage you to be cautious about the email you received from this member

and i never saw the item on the site again. was this a scam or was the item wrongly priced and took off i don't know but i have never had a email from ebay telling my the above

hmm, it could be ebay jumping to conclusions again or that.... ive seen so many items very cheap prices, even although one item costs x amount in the shops, when you buy in bulk, you can get massive discounts, and this could be one of the reasons....

im not sure that is true, a golf club woth 199 selling for 50 quid. you could never ever get a brand new ping g5 driver anywhere in the world as cheap as that.

what was puzzling me though is the email i received fom ebay.

  • Usually when you receive that email from eBay it means that they suspect that particular seller (who you have messaged) is fraudulent and are therefore warning you not to enter into a transaction with them.

Either a) the seller doesn't even have the item and/or b) you will never receive it. They just want you money.
