Fitting hob with flexi gas pipe

I have a new gas hob which doesnt have the flexi pipe with it. I used to have an all in one gas cooker and this had the flexi pipe which we just fitted ourselves by pushing the flexi pipe end into the push fit part on our gas pipe (hope that makes sense).

What im wondering is can i just buy the flexi pipe (seen online new for around £10) and join it to the hob, then push fit the other end to the gas pipe?
Ive heard of some people having a hard fixed pipe proffesionally installed which has cost just about the same as what you pay for a hob!! Whats the point of that when you can do the flexi way? I know theres new regulations etc but they dont always make a lot of sense. We had our gas cooker for years with no problems with the flexi pipe join.

I'm not CORGI registered but I think the rules have been tightened up in this area. AFAIK most hobs should be on fixed pipework, not flexi connectors. I also think it depends on the manufacturers instructions, so if your new hob says it should be connect to rigid pipework, it should be connected to rigid pipework. Wait for a reply from a CORGI person, please, I think there are a couple who post on here regularly.

You cannot use a flexi pipe on a hob. It MUST be in solid copper. Unless you are CORGI registered you should not touch it by law. I know at times the law is an !!!, but.

Some particular hobs can be connected via a flexi hose. But you shouldn't touch any gas appliance in your house.

It must be done by a corgi engineer. What if the new appliance is faulty? It could be leaking from the manufactuer.

Why have the rules on flexi pipes changed?
Are they regarded as risky due to perishing/flammability etc?

Just found out my sisters gas hob has flexi pipe which she has had now for about 6 years. Is it just a case of the law changing to make money from you?

I totally agree things should be safe but why change the rules on something that has quite happlily worked before

When we moved into our new build house two years ago, hob installed with flexi pipe.

I queried the builder on this, as I was told when changing hobs at our old hose, that hobs needed to be hard piped. (existing hob was hard piped). Builder replied that yes, they used to be hard piped but the regs had changed.

I have been corgi registered for 6 years now and you've never been able to and still can't connect a gas hob with a flexable hose. The flexable hoses are for connecting gas ovens and ranges. The reason for this is to facilitate removing the unit, whereas with a hob you don't need to first take it out to disconnect it from the pipe work.
