    1. Have you sold the car? If not do it - Bailiffs have number plate recognition.
    2. have you rung Herbie21 on the premium number? She is probably the only person who can stop the bailiff taking your goods and charging you £1250 for the privilege in the timescale.

I have 'sold' the car tto my father, and written out a receipt. do i need to complete log book detals etc or should the receipt suffice, ive just phoned herbie21 and spoke o her but my credit ran out, im just recreditting now to phone her back.

Has he signed the receipt to say he got the £1?

If so, you are covered IMO but double check with Herbie.

If you are going to go down the road of selling the car to your your dad you will have to change the V5 and your insurance

bailiffs can do a DVLA check to confirm registered keeper they do however need the reg number to do this

If the bailiff doesn't know he owns a car they don't have his registration number I would have thought number plate recognition will be no good to them in this instance (or am i missing something)
I am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites

  • Does you have a friend that will lend you a space in their garage to park the car in till the paperwork is through? Out of sight is out of mind.

I really wish I could give you some advice here, but it looks like there are far more knowledgable folk here already.
Instead (and not worth as much) I will offer you my best wishes in this situation, and hope that the Bailiff company, get off your back and pass your case back to the council.

    Heres his details....

Jason PaulMcGarryBurnley Combined Court Centre04/09/200903/09/2011Rossendales Ltd

I spoke to herbie21 she's been wonderful, ive followed her advice and text the baillif stating that my wife is vulnerable and that he's levied on worthless goods to intentionally add charges and that a complaint has been made.
I then phoned the local council and explained these details to them and asked for my account be reurned back to them. Ive arranged with them to pay a total of £120 per month for my council tax and arrears, but unfortunately has to be by attachment to earnings.
This may be embarrassing but at least its sorted now and i can clear this debt.
Thank you all for your advice and words of support. :)

You should NEVER allow the bailiff access to your home (this also applies to your parents as well).

I would never let my parents have access to my home either :rotfl:

Glad it is sorted now and that you can carry on paying it back.

Can you now afford £120 a month?

Look on here for lots of money saving tips if not.

To be honest if we cant afford it then we need to be a little more thrifty, council tax is a priority bill and im fully aware of that.
I think we will go to see citizens advice and get further information on anything that they may be able to help us with.
Im just wondering what else my wife has been too ashamed to tell me about. Its not her fault though, depression is an illness and i can fully understand that... its just hard sometimes when things like this happen :(
Im going to ensure that she speaks to this counsellor that shes been avoiding.

    Hi

there is a lot of help on here.

A couple of things would be:

Both get your credit records from all three agencies - there is usuyally advice on here as to how to do this for free.

    Check the mortgage/rent payments separately.

    Speak to the utility companies

Do a Statement of Affairs when you know what is outstanding.

There is a whole host of information in the Money Saving Old Style forum that would help your wife to manage better and a lot of people there on DFW and Marriage and Relationships who know firsthand about depression, so could support her.
