Is my extortionate car insurance renewal related to a recent claim on my home insuran

We were recently burgled and had to make a claim on our home insurance.
I've just had my car insurance renewal through, at £1250.
Last year it was £450. I'm 38 I have 7 years NCD, no accidents claims or convictions. The cheapest i can find it on comparison sites is £850.
Not only have i been screwed on my home insurance renewal, It appears I am now going to be screwed on my car insurance too. I know premiums have reportedly risen by 'upto' 35%, but mine has risen nearly 200%. I've spoke to several brokers and they don't understand why it is so high either all returning quotes of over a grand.
Now I do drive a big car, so i thought it could be because of that, and have thought about going small. so I tried getting quotes using a Citroen C1, a tiny little thing. They were only £150 cheaper!!!

Insurance is based on many things including postcodes. If you happen to live in an area where insurers have experienced high losses then the likelihood is that this is part of the reason that your premium has increased. Insurance has increased in many cases by more or less than 35% - in some cases it has reduced.
Was last year's policy the first year with this insurer? If so the premium may have been discounted to attract you as a new customer. If all insurers you approach for a quote are expensive then I reckon it is because of where you live.0 -
It's not related, they just know you have to buy it somewhere.0

It was my third year with them, Each year they gave me a renewal quote I couldn't beat anywhere.
My wife insured her car 2 months ago at the £400 she usually pays, so out of interest she has used comparison sites for fresh quotes on her own car and all the quotes are now coming out at over a grand0 -

If they know you have to buy it somewhere, why don't they charge 4k.
Because my wife has only recently bought her car policy and they now, only 1.5 months later, want 2.5 times what she paid then, I think maybe it is related!
They would just prefer we thought otherwise.0 -
As bouncydog mentioned it could be related to your break in, not directly though. If the area you live in has had a lot of break ins recently the thieves may have also been stealing car keys and the cars. This could cause a massive increase in claims costs for insurers in your area which normally results in them putting their premiums up0

Out of interest who is the insurer and where do you live (general area not exact).0
