Slow laptop

Hi All.

I have now set up a Vaio (K315Z) running (VERY SLOWLY) on a widescreen monitor.

Cant seem to display the screen properly - it is just stretched?

Where should I look to correct this.?

Also the very noisy fan is on all of the time. Can this be controlled?

Also regarding the snail-like performance, here is the hijack log that I just ran.

    uninstall avg8 and one care, install avast + malwarebytes

    There lies your problem. Firefox on its own can easily ramp up to a couple of hundred MB memory usage.

    I no longer sell any laptops with under 1GB of RAM in even if they're running XP because software has now become so bloated that 512MB simply isn't enough.

    Hopefully I can strip out all unnecessary and get reasonable performance from it.

    My neighbours laptop is 512 with a 1.6 Celeron and it leaves mine in the dust.
