Ikea wardrobe fix to wall

Hi,

I bought an Elga 2 sliding door wardrobe and it states that I should fix it to the wall. I need a bit of advice as I am no DIY expert. I'm below novice. lol

Here is a link to the manual with some instructions...

As far as I can see, Ikea has supplied us with the brackets, but not the screws. There is no information about the screws and it appears you just drill them into your wall. Do I have to go out and buy two screws? Do they have to be a particular type or length? Any advice would be welcome as this is a definite shortcoming on Ikea's part.

The wall in question is a normal solid brick wall, covered in plaster, of a 1930's house.

Thanks in advance.

By the looks of it there ought to be a couple of screws (slot head not cross head) in the pack. With a brick and plaster wall you'll need to drill holes and fit rawlplugs in to stop them pulling out - you can't just screw into plaster and expect it to hold. They tend not to supply the rawlplugs as it depends whether you are fixing to a hollow wall or a solid brick one as to the type you need. For this you just need pretty basic ones big enough to take the screws provided. If there aren't any screws then get some probably about 40mm long and I'd say a gauge 8 or 10, and then drill holes as stated on the appropriate rawlplugs (normally says the size drill to use)

  • Thanks Dave. You see the problem with the instructions. There basically are none. lol.

There definitely are no screws supplied. Maybe someone else can confirm this.

    Thanks again.

Ikea dont supply wall screws simply because of the variation in types of wall. Obviously covering their backs.

  • Ikea don't put wall fixings in the packs as every wall is different. You'll need to get some rawl plugs or wall fixings suitable for your type of wall.

If you have a brick wall then use a rawl plug as said above . If you have a plaster wall you'll need something like this. If in doubt ask at the diy shop you go to, I find there's always an older gentleman who knows loads of useful stuff and is happy to help in most B&Qs.
