Virgin Media - "Recurring Transaction" on Internet Banking - Nationwide

So, I paid part of a Virgin Media bill with a Nationwide Visa Debit card.
I have seen this in my internet banking but it says:

"Virgin Media Pymts VIRGINMEDIA.C - Recurring Visa Transaction."

Does this mean they can take money as and when they please?
Hope not!

I have seen somewhere on here where somebody mentioned the same, and another poster asked if the OP was with Nationwide but they never replied.

    Yes.

Never Never give a card number out for recurring payments
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
  • I didnt give them my card details for a recurring payment though.
I did it online for a one-off payment of £16 to get my services reactivated!
  • What you think has happened is that you've instructed a one off payment via your card.

What it sounds like has happened is that your method of payment has been changed to card, which is a recurring arrangement in those circumstances.

You should email VM and make it abundantly clear that you gave no such authorisation. Should any future debits appear on your account, you might need to pursue a charge-back with the bank.

Will not work - banks cannot stop recurring card payments or do a charge back only the company can stop the recurring card payment.

OP make a formal complaint to VM that you did not authorise them to take out payment by card but by direct debit, and that they are to revert your account to direct debit as agreed. Add if they refuse to do so you will take your complaint further

You need to wait 13 weeks during which you have to see if they do revert to taking your money by DD. If they don't then you need to escalate your complaint to CISAS
