Tax credits stopped - now restarted - will I get the missed payment?

I am a single mum of 2 on CTC and last year stopped my income support as i am getting maintenance from my ex. when my renewal came in I advised that my circumstances had changed and I think in summer holidays i got a letter asking them to advise how my circumstances had changed. I suffer from depression and dont do well with phones and concentration\multitasking is poor. Anyway i tried several times to get through but always had to hang up due to kids. I then got sidetracked with other stuff and then got to point i couldnt remember whether I had mailed the info to them or not.

Anyway my payment didnt go in a few Fridays ago. I was too stressed that day because of it and decided to wait till Monday to see if payment went through. It didnt. I then phoned them and after 40 mins got through to someone. Explained the change was due to me not getting income support as I get maintenance. Woman then said my payments would be reinstated. I asked how long this would take, she went away and checked and said about 1 week. I didnt ask any more as although this was a good day for me the anxiety of sitting on the phone all that time etc was getting a lot for me.

Anyway I received a payment last Friday - approx £6 more than I usually get a week - just wondered if i would ever get the missed payment? I had to borrow off my mum to buy food and electric the last week and its a lot of money to loose out on. I had promised I would take the kids to a soft play centre in next town this holidays but atm cant afford the bus fares and entrance fee, and wont if i dont get this money.

I know i was in wrong but I honestly forgot about it after trying several times to get through...sorry my memory and multitasking\reading\hearing are all screwed up nowadays. its annoying as i am scared to work as I had to leave my old job due to coming close to a breakdown when my marriage first broke up - have tried to get a school based cleaning job as think I could handle that (Used to do It then project work in an Oil company but brain couldnt cope with that or the interaction involved!), and even thinking of trying to organise childcare around holidays if I got a non school based job, me getting transport to and from work, getting me and kids organised for childcare and work in morning just freak me out big time. I know I will get there eventually just takes longer with young children to take care of too I guess?!

If anyone knows the answer about lost payment, or points me to a web site I can try looking up then that would be great. Sorry if this is all over the place - bit link my mind nowadays! lol

  • Also, reading through the boards I see some people get ESA for depression? Would I be able to claim this or would fact I dont qualify for income support due to maintenance money mean i dont qualify for ESA? And if I did claim and qualify for ESA, would they give me any help to get me back into work...I dont get any help at moment as a single mum as I dont qualify for Income support and could really do with the support, especially with this depression. At moment I just feel left on my own and ignored....
  • Hi , the only part of your posts i can help with is to tell you that NO , you will not receive the "missing" week of ctc as a lump sum

What HMRC will do however is recalcualte your award over the rest of the tax year - ie from now until 5th April . This explains why your payment has increased by £6 per week .

Im guessing the payment you missed out on last week was around the £135 mark ?

Your payments will remain the same now (your "usual" amount plus £6 extra ) until you renew in April next year.

    Hope this helps
  • No it was about £95\£96 and my renewal date isnt April - think its september\October...darn...will take me ages to pay my mum back and she is on tax credits too so hasnt exactly got money to throw around...guess I better break the news to her:(
  • Is this child tax credits you are talking about ?

Its just that renewal time for EVRYONE is from April 5th every year ?

Forms are sent out by HMRC beginning on this date every year . This is commonly known as "renewal time" ?
