Venetian Blinds + Installation

Options
We have decided to put venetian blinds in every room and have just been visited by one company who have quoted us £1250 Inc installation

Rough breakown = aluminium 25mm (golden pecan colour)

2 of 1.5m x 2.5m
2 " 1.m x 1.5m
1 " 2.5m x 2m
1 " 2m x 1.5m

Does that seem excessive? is it alot cheaper to install them yourself?

  • £208 each seems a bit high Hillary's by any chance? Look at local companies but bear in mind very few make venetians in house/ Most buy them in from measurements made. The crux of the fitting is the measuring. get this wrong (easier to get wrong than right) and it becomes an expensive hobby. Window handles, inside the recess or outside, Drop is easy, width is critical. I was in the trade for years, but got my wood venetians from IKEA and cut them to width myself. (Gaffer tape and a jigsaw) Adjusting the number of slats for height is quite easy on a flat surface. Other optiions ask for price for 50mm slats rather than 25mm. Ask if they make them in-house, if not they are simply adding their cut. No such thing as free fitting, they have to pay the fitter, so get discount. Good Luck
  • Thankyou very much i will get another quote this friday and compare them, also ask some of those questions also !
  • Next quote was from a VERY well known supplier and was for £1250 ! *snap* Im getting tempted to measure and fit myself, but bit worried about messin it up  now i gotta make a decision..

We just got the front of our house done but they are vertical 7 in all of varying sizes. living room window bay window one at front and two sides , 3 in upstairs windows, or and one large one for double french doors at the rear £375 by a local company who have been local for 30 years. They were the most expensive of 3 quotes we got but went with them because of their reputation.
  • Speaking from personal experience I always found these guys http://www.b4i.co.uk/ good and have passed their details on to other people with good results, so much so our kitchen fitter now uses them as the initial order point.

Made to measure, free samples and the fitting is fairly straight forward.

Your last blind measuring 2 * 1.5m, pecan aluminium came out at £76.47p.

They include measuring guides etc, but don't think you'll need that given you have had them measured already.
    Feb GC £41.23/£90 :o

  • Thankyou for your advise, i have looked at that site and ordered some samples so if they are the same then i will install them myself. Ill surely save at least £600 doing so ! Just got to make sure i get the measurements right
