Free insulation! Thanks!

I had already booked a survey from British Gas with a view to getting my loft insulation improved, and had regretfully told them that I wasn't eligible for a grant, as I don't claim pension credits, or any of the other qualifying allowances. I made it clear to them that I was of pensionable age. They asked me whether I wanted cavity wall insulation done and I told them that it depended upon the cost, and hedged my bets. They said nothing to me about the free offer, but between that phone call and the arrival of their surveyor, I picked up the regular email with the limited time information about free cavity wall insulation, and was well informed. He had to change the job number and I had to provide proof of age, but the result is that I am only having to pay for the loft insulation. Thank you, Martin Lewis!:T

  • Perhaps not so free insulation!
My parents booked to have the inspection from British Gas for the new offer for free cavity wall insulation for the over 60's. Engineer came, inspected and left a quote for £250! He knew nothing of the offer. Called BG, they said the work would qualify under the free offer. I wanted written proof as I didn't want my parents to be asked for money after the work was done. 11 days later, 3 complaints written and still no reply from BG. Neither proof that the work will be free or when they will do the work.
    What is going on?
Has anybody had a similar problem?
Has anybody actually had this work done yet?
As this is a limited offer it all starts looking a little bit odd that they haven't even arranged when to do the work yet.

IS there a link to free insulation or the discussion please?
  • I rang british gas about free cavity wall insualtion for over 60's on 18th October, engineer came and did inspection on. 19th October. Job completed 22nd October.
  • Thats sounds like the sort of service we all should get.:j

Still no reply from BG so called again. Told that the Home Insulation Dept. do not have a complaints process as they don't get any complaints!!!!

Awaiting a reply in 2-3 days!!!

I can't believe that they are making this so difficult.
  • I can't post a link but the details are on the Money Saving Expert site.

but hurry, it stops at the end of the month
  • Had to book up another appointment as the wrong code had been entered when the first appt. was booked. Code on computer unable to be changed! New free quote can only be generated with another inspection. What a waste of time and money. Over 2 weeks to sort this out!
Very poor! And rather rude manager in the Home Insulation Dept. didn't help much either. "Not his fault", "only knew about it the day before", etc etc.
