Ebay item broke the first time I used it :(

It was a new item from a business seller. It cost £6.99 with free p&p. Should I contact the seller or can I only do that if it was broken on receipt? I used it correctly and didn't do anything silly to break it.

The seller immediately refunded in full and told me to throw away the item. I was worrying about nothing!

One of my buyers left me neutral feedback as the item broke on the first go.
Didn't contact me to tell me or let me rectify the situation.
