My husband works for the council and they just moved him from weekly to four weekly, there was a 9 day difference in pay times and they offered a week's loan to cover, but we chose to put money aside each week so we were ready for the move and I changed the due date of the council tax as that would have clashed with the move.Payment a day challenge: £236.69
Jan Shopping Challenge: £202.09/£250
Frugal Living Challenge: £534.64/150000 -
Where do you come from Google!!!! we are not ignoring the advice in relation to the advance but as previously stated we are on LOW incomes with hardly any monies to play with at the end of each month....IE we dont EARN ENOUGH TO REPAY BACK IF WE DO TAKE ADVANCE.... what we aint got we cannot pay back SIMPLES !!! so basically your advice is to go into debt just for the sake of getting a advancement and having less then in February, occur interest which then = more debt, pay off interest to incurr even more debt lol ...well that really makes sense! Good advice eh? Definatley not having a advance. Too many peeps get into trouble by taking out advancements they cannot afford and on here they encourage it lol
But wouldn't your OH get the extra 11 days pay on 1st Feb, that you can then use to pay back an 11 day's pay advance?
Or are you saying they are moving his pay day from 20th Jan to 1st Feb but not paying him anymore for the 11 days?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Are you not getting what I am saying, your normal wage would have lasted until the 20th of Jan and the company are moving it back until the 1st of feb which is 11 days where you have no extra money.
So can you not ask that the money you would get for those 11 days are paid by the employer as an advance and then taken back from the wages on the first so you can get yourself level?
I don't see the problem in me mentioning this really. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Girlarty, I appreciate it is difficult being on low wages but this thread will be short lived with the current responses you are taking.
Considering the company are moving the 20th Jan payment, and have already told you this then I think they are trying to ensure a smooth change over. After all this is over 4 months away (1/3 of the year).
The advice from getmore4less is sensible, and I think it is important to use this as a reason to improve your financial position and make some savings (although I appreciate it is difficult).
Likewise, Googlewhacker is not suggesting taking out a high interest loan (e.g. of the payday variety) but instead to work with the employer to see if they can help if the change in date will impact you (perhaps they'll give interest free loan, additional pay in Dec which gets paid back in Feb).
In addition, have you checked what amounts you need to pay during the 11 day period i.e. what date are mortgage payments etc. If the payments are not until say 7th of each month then this may have little impact on you and it will be a case of careful expenditure on food etc.
Out of interest, if you are out of work then have you checked you are getting all benefits you are entitled too as this may also help.0 -

depends what the pay period covers.
If they are paying the month on the 20th so 10/11 days in advance and moving the pay day to 1/2 days in areers there may be no adjustment.
Other possible options to investigate, extend the mortgage term to reduce the payments.
Look to see if there is the possiblity of Interest only for a few months to sort out cash flow
I take it there are no discretionary spends you can cut so no mobile phones or sat or cable tv packages you can cut back on.0 -

I don't think this is the case as it would have been mentioned but if it was the case then I would expect a larger uproar by the employees and I would be worried that this is being done to save money because the company were not in a good way.
If it is the case then I can see why it can cause the OP alot of problems and I would be getting her OH to talk to other members of staff about this and the union if he is in one.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

One more comment, have you thought about speaking to your bank. Knowing that it is simply a delay in wages being paid in they may be able to provide an overdraft facility (interest free or at a low rate given it will only be 11 days) for that period.
Also I would suggest you contact all people you have DDs with and ask for these to be moved to a more suitable date i.e. first week of the month going forward so that they tie in with the new pay day.0 -
How dare you Hammyman suggest this our own doing!!!! My hubby is a very hard working man never scrounged off the dole or asked anyone for help..now I am annoyed! Yes we have taken on board the help suggested and today we did phone the mortgage company as the mortgage goes out the 23rd of each month which in january there is no payment so we would be in theory defaulting. We have spoken with the employer and no they are not making any further payments to cover the 11 days. We have also cut down today on our shopping and put that amount we wqould of saved in a pot...so we are doing as much as possible. Hubby has tried in vain to get a higher paid HGV job but it is not easy as agency workers take the brunt of new jobs out there so I take offence at your remark. WE dont live above our means at all, we survive we dont have luxuries we dont take holidays, in fact we have not had a holiday for over 2o years!!!!! in fact we dont even have a passport. CAN YOU TELL NOW I AM ANNOYED!.0

Can you take a payment holiday on your mortgage for a month?0

Hi Caroline no is the answer we had a lengthy chat today and basically when we were paid 20th it paid the mortgage for that month ie up to the end of the month so now being paid in Feb means we are basically a whole month default even though in theory and paper it is 11 days. We had to take repayment after being on interest free as only short length left of term so payments are obviously higher. My advixe is if sold a interest only mortgage forget it unless you are 110 sure you can repay at end of term, we was unlucky and not told this til too late. WE have been told that if crunch comes to crunch we can make a payment on credit card, although hubby is old school and does not like having debts, what we cant afford we dont have and save for.
I only wanted advice if the company could do this legally or had to give x amount of time and so far some members have taken it upon themsleves to judge us without the facts and point fingers which I take offence too. My hubby has worked all his life for this company and is loyal yes low paid but he is in a job and we are grateful.0
