Gameboy Advance Link Cable Advice Needed!!!!

Hi ya
little miss divadee wants to play with her friends via the link cable on their gameboys.
Am i right in thinking for pokemon they all need a copy of the same game? she has pokemon sapphire and her friend has got ruby can they connect???
Also is it possible to play these using the wireless adapator or do they both need a wireless adaptor or just one of them.
I know nothing about these game boy things!!!!
Also is it worth getting a wireless adaptor for the gba as she may be getting a ds lite for xmas????? And i assume that a gba wireless adaptor wont fit a ds lite?????
Please please help asap as she has seen one on ebay that finishes soon and is bugging the hell out of me to get it!!!! shes paying not me so i dont want her to waste her hard earned cash!!!!!
