Direct Debit switching

Various sources say that my old bank will reply with complete DD info to an authorised request from my new bank within 3 working days.
I appreciate that time this is not part of the DD guarantee but is it a mandatory requirement elsewhere so that a formal complaint can be made against my old bank should they take longer than 3 days or not respond at all?

Think this is part of a 'code of practice' for switching and not a binding guarantee so not sure you will get anywhere with a formal complaint and compensation.
However, if you have suffered bank charges or problems with DD fees as a result, you should ask Santander to refund them.

im on hold with santander atm for the exact same thing. im leaving them because of their shoddy customer service0
