I have just go a new Digital Camera and need a fast card for the HD movie and more than 10 pics
The camera's site recommends
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002BIZAV8/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d5_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=11EH1NAFCJAH1TV2NESR&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
It also take SDXC cards which I found one
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Extreme%C2%AE-Video-SDHCTM-Cards/dp/B000Y9TZ9Y/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1286778212&sr=8-6
As the classes of card never seem to match each other, I was wondering if anyone can offer an alternative maybe similar price but higher capacity.

Out of interest what camera is it?
Can you say what cards it does recommend because it will not recommend only cards from amazon.
Can't you borrow a card any class and see how it copes?
Didn't you read what other people buy on your 1st link? Theres a card twice the size for just over half the price, same class0 -
it recommends the panasonic (first link) it is the Lumix Fz45, and panasonic would recommend their own stuff. I only have old 32mb SD card class1 and it warns on the screen not suitable for movies, its also smaller than the internal memory of the camera.
I have looked at the transend class 10 but as none of the brands classes match up with transfer rate I would have no idea what they mean hence the confusion, some say a class 6 is enough and advertise for HD movies, but other class 6 seem to be slower and some higher classes have lower data rates. The other cameras in the house use other types of cards so can't try it out.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -
Pick something from this page and in the unlikely event its not compatible just DSR regs return it for refund.... don't forget to use a cashback site for an extra 4% too.

-just ordered a Class 10 16GB card for the new cannon camera I picked up over the weekend too.... I chose the £18.99 one rather than the £60 Panasonic one
EDIT: re-reading your post it was actually the transcend one you were looking at that I bought.... I suggest going for it, I'm 99% sure it'll be fine/entirely suitable, if its not you can still send it back for the full refund.0 -
Cheers, I will use amazon as I get survey vouchers from them so that will save my cash too
Least I know what to get.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -
from wikipedia:
- Class 2: 8 Mbit/s
- Class 4: 15 Mbit/s
- Class 6: 20 Mbit/s
- Class 10: 30 Mbit/s

Panasonic recommend "a class 4 or higher" - http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/compact/fz45_fz40/hd_movie.html
But... say camera uses 17mbs on max def , half way between 4 and 6 - you are wasting money on a 10. Many budget price sd cards only just achieve stated class speeds which is why I said to try a card first because a class 4 may be ok0 -
you are wasting money on a 10.
That argument will only hold water if you can find any 16GB Class 6 or Class 4 cards for less than the £18.99 16GB Class 10 we've just bought
...I can find one single Class 4 fitting the above but don't fancy 'giving it a go' to see if it might work for the sake of £1.0 -
If it helps, I bought the Panasonic Lumix TZ8 earlier in the year and bought one of these cards to use with it (not sure if that's the card you've already looked at or not)
It works fine for me for writing both pictures and HD movies. No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -
@Jasx -well yes ,I assumed higher class =higher price. This does support my claim that some card makers/sellers are selling cards in the highest class they can scrape into, and why not.0
