Videos on laptop losing quality over time??!!

May sound like an odd thing, but ive noticed this on basically every single 1 of my videos that ive had on my laptop for over 1year,
that its lost its image quality,
some very significantly!
All the videos have been downloaded off the internet through either real-player, or just as video-file downloads.
How on earth can it be that digital media loses its quality like this over time though?? :eek:
And is there anything i can do to prevent it??

It is more likely that something has affected your laptop performance (or to your display) over the time rather than the video quality degrading.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Files do not degrade; they are either correct or have errors.0

Could it be that my media player is causing the older files to lose quality??
As i use realplayer, and have upgraded from version 7 back then, to version 11 now.
But when i opened them on vcl and divx players the videos are better quality....0 -

Try VLC media player that gives the option to repair files .
Poor playback is corrupt files and that's not poor image quality throughout the video .
Poor image quality likely cause is Video Card or video card driver or overheating video card .
Screen dirty or screen starting to fail or the backlights are failing .
Wrong Codecs used to playback the files that might be the newer Real Player .
As you used Real Player to download what format are they .

Its basically when i watch with realplayer the videos are all kind of grainy, take longer to buffer with the buffering happening while the video is playing causing the sound to contunue but the video to freezeup.
But with vlc or divx player the playback is smooth of thse older files.0 -
Are you sure it is not your eyesight which has deteriorated over the same period? I am semi-serious
