Canon printer ink problem

I have a Pixma ip4000 printer. When I print a test page one of the black cartridges only prints out half of what it should. The top half is OK but the lower half is blurred and uneven.
Any ideas

Have you recently replaced your inks?
If you go onto your printers properties & select maintenance, try doing "deep cleaning" a few times. But be warned this uses quite a bit of ink.
If this doesn't work it is likely that you will need a new printhead or worse a carriage or purge unit:eek:0 -
Canon have a good helpline, with actual human beings: 08705 143 723 (yes I know it's an 0870 no. but it's charged at 0.791p/minute!? from a BT line - you can check the other options at http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/index.asp)0

Thanks for replying. I've been into properties and done everything in there several times. All the other inks are fine, it's just this one ink that only prints half.0

Is your printer still in warranty? ie less than 1 year old. If so contact Canon and (hopefully) they will arrange for an engineer to visit or if you are lucky or too remote a location they may just send you the printhead.:eek:0

Thanks everyone
The telephone support number is closed but I've been on the website and put my problem on line so hopefully it can be sorted out0 -
If you do get a reply, would you post the response back here please - it's nice to know how problems are resolved (plus I have the same printer so it may come in useful to me one day ;-) )0

No reply yet from Canon but I put a new cartridge in and did several deep cleans and it seems to be working ok0

Glad it seems to be working. If there is a problem with purge unit etc you print quality will deteriorate quite quickly again.Renee wrote:No reply yet from Canon but I put a new cartridge in and did several deep cleans and it seems to be working ok:eek:0 -
Any word from Canon yet?Renee wrote:No reply yet from Canon but I put a new cartridge in and did several deep cleans and it seems to be working ok:eek:0 -
I had a reply from Canon asking if I'd done deep cleaning, what inks I was using, if I had tried several ink cartridges etc. I've replied saying I've done all the usual maintainance. While I was waiting for a reply I put a third cartridge in and did a deep clean and it worked. I've since e-mailed Canon to say problem solved. 2 duff cartridges!0
