I began the process of switching gas & electric from British Gas to Eon back in August and although the gas has been switched the electric is still being processed! It was at one point at the final stage prior to transfer but has now slipped back to the registration step according the website.

I've tried speaking to Eon a couple of times now but they keep telling me that it can take a while, but nearly 2 months, c'mon! In the meantime I can't manage my account online, and more importantly I can't get the refund of my DD from BG until it's fully transferred. Oh, and not to mention the £50 cashback I'm still waiting on from Quidco which I assume won't happen until the process is complete.

Is there anything I can do to speed things up, just how long is the process supposed to take? I feel like giving up altogether and going back to BG.

We had a similar slow experience with E-on. We started the switch from EDF at the end of July and the switch finally happened in late September - only after E-on:

    1. Ignored the meter readings we sent by email and made up their own, then claimed that "sometimes we're told to use estimated readings by the body that does the supply switches!!"

    2. Messed up the direct debit and didn't tell us - we only found out by sending several emails to E-on. Thye eventually replied saying "your direct debit was cancelled". It would have been nice to be informed.

We're not impressed with E-on so far!

    Hi neilmcl,

Changing suppliers is normally delayed due to information not being sent from one supplier to another, there is also a number of third parties involved in the change over and all information is sent electronically.

There is a dedicated registrations department at E.ON and they should be able to tell you why there is a delay.

If you would like me to take a look at your account for you, I will be happy to do so, just use the email address in my profile page.

    Helena :)

  • Had a similar experience when I switched from Npower to Eon about a year ago. Can't remember which way round it was but I think gas got switched quickly but the electricity took 2 or 3 months before it was confirmed .... though it was just "confirmation" that was causing the delay - when it came throuhg the switch was back dated to the same date as the gas switch and used the meter reading I'd taken around that date. During this process I called the Eon switching help number about every 2 weeks to find out what was happening but got the reply that they were waiting for a response from Npower to confirm they were happy with the meter reading and there was nothing I could do but wait!
