Railway lines ???

Switching on after a week away my Dell flat screen now has a set of vertical railway lines to the left of the screen. Aprox 12mm in from the left edge. The lines are 10mm apart. One is white and one is torquoise.
They are there the whole time the screen is switched on and the white one changes colour dependant on the background. It started off as single line when I first switched on but now seems to be permanently the two.
Is it a hardware fault with my screen or can I change a setting to remove the lines?
All help appreciated, thanks.

sounds like one of two things
1: faulty graphics card....try someone elses monitor to see if you have the same picture/display problem (this is a good opportunity to check connections as well)
2: faulty monitor....phone Dell...you can't really do repairs on these thingsI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0
