Evening,
Have just dipped a toe in the water and bought a smartphone.

I was wondering what peoples average usage on these things for various apps was.

Eg there is a weather channel programme. I presume this auto updates and if so how often and how much data does it use.

I know I can put on a usage calculator but wondered if anyone who has been using one for a while could let me know what their average monthly use is and what they us it for to achieve that.

Cheers

  • it depends on your device... i wouldnt have thought a small app would use that much data, then again it depends how much you update it. the best bet is to connect your device to wireless and it should use your broadband connection over your mobile networks.

what phone have you bought? that would help people give you info and recommendations.

usually apps only update when you open them unless they are open in the background and set to auto update. but every device is slightly different.

I can safely say that 3GB of data will be more than enough for all but the most hardcore data downloading (ie very large podcasts or lots of video streaming),

you can always download a data moniter app of you want it shouldnt hurt you battery much at all but with a large allowance like that I doubt you should need to majorly watch what your doing,

also if you have wifi at home you can use that for video streaming and you will notice it be a lot faster than 3G

    Cheers - thats fantastic.

Wasnt anticipating burning up the allowance but wheras its easy to figure out minutes of usage or how many txts you send, the art of calculating data is all a bit new to me.
