Utilities reconnected in repossession?

Hi i have just bought my first house which is a repossession and I get the keys on Friday.
I was told that i am responsible for getting all the utilities reconnected but I'm unsure how I actually do this? Will i have to get someone to come out to switch the gas and electricity back on for me?
As this is my first house I don't know what the normal procedure is when moving into a house especially a repossession so any advice would be appreciated.

Call your preferred supplier and ask them to connect you. The fact that it's a repossession is irrelevant.0 -

what i meant was that my solicitor made a point to me that if i went ahead with the purchase i would be responsible for the costs etc of getting everything reconnected as it is a repossession. Because my solicitor told me this i was under the impression that getting the utilities up and running might not be as easy as it usually is when purchasing a house and that there may be different things that you have to do hence the reason i posted on here looking for some advice explaining the process0 -
it depneds if the electric or gas was turned off or disconnected. If it was turned off you just have to turn the lever. If it was disconncted by the utility company they may have to do something to put it back on, this will obviosuly cost money.
On the gas and electricity meter there is a meter number, call up the phone number on the meter and they will be able to tell you the supplier. Call the supplier and tell them you now own the property. Youy will need to send a copy of the completion statement.
Chances are you willhave some bills when you get there. Call up the suppliers from these.
It may also be wise to open the other letters demanding money and ontact them letting them know you now own the property and can will provide a completionstatement so they can stop sending the letters.
i'd probably get a gas man round to turn the gas on though and check the gas supply. cost about 30 mins of his time.i buy houses ........... any condition.0 -
The central heating and plumbing systems may have been drained down, and depending on how confident you are about 'recommissioning' them, you may wish to call a plumber in. Depending on the design of the systems, there may be a certain order that you need to do things.
Likewise, you may want to call an electrician to carry out a test on the electrics before you start using lots of appliances, and/or a qualified gas installer or service engineer to make sure you don't blow yourself up.0
