    The code is stored in the ECU and in the key but if you delete the code from the ECu the key will be no good either remote nor transponder chip.

    As for changing the locks well as they only have a working blade there as about as well off as having a brick.:D but if the insurance company are paying then might as well.

    A lot of cars now are going keyless as pysical locks are outdated tech, and are only there as that is what people are used to! the transponders are far harder to get round than the pysical lock.

    ECU does not need to be changed, They just erase the old keys from it and program new ones, About £180 for new keys & a program, Bit more if they replace the locks barrels.

    Thanks for that. Assuming lock sets and keys are readily available, what sort of time do they need to change everything over?

    We finally have the focus back. We could have had it last Saturday, but work and other things got in the way. the bill to the insurance company iro of £600. They just have to do the Hyundai now.
