what to do with a Cheque in childs name?

Have just received a cheque in my childs name but am unsure what the best thing to do with it is.
We already have a CTF that has monthly contribution so don't want to start another account with a monthly contribution. The cheque cannot be paid into the CTF as it is not payable to the correct name and I'd rather not go back to get it redone. I have read the guide on child accounts on here, the best account seems to be a Northern Rock but only openable in the branch, the nearest branch is 2 1/2 hours drive away as we live in the Highlands.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

What banks / building societies are you able to get to easily?
Clydesdale have a Child Savings Bond at 4% fixed for 5 years.

Open a postal account? It doesn't need to be an account specifically for children.0
