The way to cut the cost of transfers from and to the airport is to buy the Partner Tageskarte (day ticket) for the entire Munich network ('Gesamtraum'). This costs around 19 euros and is valid for up to 5 adults or 10 children. It lasts the entire day, so will get you into the centre of Munich and on unlimited journeys around the city. It's valid for trains, underground, buses and trams.

Astonishing value. You can buy this at any ticket machine - you'll find them at the airport.
  • Lufthansa also have an airport bus which will drop off at many destinations around Munich or at Hauptbanhof, which we always use, I haven't been for two years but I'm sure it was 14Euros for a return ticket to Hauptbanhof last time, and you don't need to be a Lufthansa customer to use it. The driver also has a wee fridge full of cold drinks which are free. :D
