Help!
Just applied for my first credit card- an amex plat- and was DENIED!!
AARRGHH!!!
I dont know why. Maybe its because I paid some council tax bills rather late a few years back or maybe because I have never had any credit of any kind before (never ever been in debt and dont intend to be). Anyway, I have loads of cash in the bank and earn well enough so it cant be that.
Anyway, so I go to experian to get a free credit report. Only experian dont accept my switch/meastro debit card. Dont know why, but BMI also dont seem to accept these for online transaction. So then I figure I'll go ask my bank for a different card or if they could help me in some way.
Only problem is the closest branch thats open on a saturday is about two hours drive away  What a wunch of bankers! What are you supposed to do if you work for a living? Take a day off work each time you need to visit your bank!?
Anyway, I have had it with my bank (RBS) and now want to close down my account and open an account somewhere else.
Main question - What about my Direct Debits? Can some or all of the banks move these automatically? I would hate for one of these to bounce and further wound my credit rating while also incurring massive fees.
Any advice much appreciated.
Jon.

if you go here you can get a credit report without using any sort of credit/debit card.
