How Can I Make Ebook Cover In Word?

I am putting together an ebook in Word, but am having problems creating the cover. For instance, if I use Word Art, draw a rectange to cover the whole page, and then fill it with black, how can I stop the colour from spilling over into the interior pages?
Is it really possible to create a good ebook cover in Word, without having to resort to those online pdf convertors where you place a Photoshop-created cover before the interior of the book?
