hell would freeze over before I give into this sharp and immoral practise.

brrrrrrrrr. It's getting cold down here.
  • Not read the whole thread.

I say gazunder away if you are willing to risk loosing the property. Most sellers would be happy to gazump, so just get on with it.

If people want to moan about it, they should be moaning at the government to change the house buying process. In the meantime, play the game as it is.

But surely if you have Children you should expect to feed and clothe them from your wages, not government handouts.

Exactly right, the indignation from the cuts in child benefit stem from peoples failure to realise the absurdity of the tax payer having to pay for people to have children. Either you can afford it in which case good luck to you or you can't afford it in which case don't have them.

I can't afford to run a Rolls Royce and I don't expect the tax payer to pay me to do so.

The bottom line is if you can gazump the vendor then do so, despite everyones outrage 10k is a lot of money and this is a business transaction. If you went to the bank and asked to see 10k in £1 coins (if they would let you!) it would give you some idea of how much it really is and you will have to earn that (+ the interest cost!). The vendor might tell you to get stuffed and would be well within their rights to do so. Only you can make that decision.
I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling ;)

Were your parents not paid to bring you up?

Like others who have posted on here I would drop you like a hot turd!! If you weren't happy with what you were paying in the first place then you shouldn't have made the offer!! House prices will always rise and fall but to change your mind at this point is a low blow.

I know money is involved but at the end of the day for me it would be a moral issue...what does it say about your character if you as good as make a deal and then pull out or change the goal posts? I pity the people in the chain if they have you at the bottom!!

Children aren't exactly a luxury item though are they?

I'll admit to being one of the people being indignant about this. I live in the southeast in a modest three bedroom house with a morgage that was (up until the rate crash) over £1500 a month. I am the sole earner of the household on below the new proposed threshold (but many hours of hard earnered overtime usually puts me just over). We have two kids and do find it a bit of a struggle at times - the child benefit comes in really handy.

Next door to us is a lady in an identical house with two kids. She doesn't work, gets her rent paid by the state, along no doubt with many other benefits such as free school meals, fresh fruit, computers etc. She must be doing all right financially as most evenings she can be found outside in her garden smoking and drinking whilst chatting on her mobile phone. Thats what makes me angry...

    Pretty sure.
If nobody had kids then the human race would cease to exist.
I'd quite confidently class that as non luxury.

Yes but my parents weren't anywhere near to being higher rate taxpayers. Even then I still dont agree with claiming it.

Yes of course because we're running out of people, the populations is positively dwindling!
