She'll get the grant on the date if her university have confirmed attendance. You must confirm attendance as a way of combating fraud.
The NI checks are only done when an application has been approved, it saves on admin.
If you did apply ontime, and supplied all the documents the application form stated, then you would've been fine.
My son is sill Waiting for his maintenance payment & his attendance was confirmed onthe 6th Sept0 -
My son applied for his loan in good time & supplied all the correct info, his attendance was confirmed by the Uni on 6/9/10 he is still waiting for his loan, despite being told that are no problems 4 weeks ago!!
Each time he rings gets he the same answer 'there are no problems & your loan will be paid within 3-5 working days'! He's made over 20 phone calls to date & it's just like banging your head against a brick wall.
I am so angry about this farce that I made him send a letter to them today giving me the authority to speak to them on his behalf. so maybe I might get some answers!0 -
Might be the term dates listed by the university, because to my knowledge there's only a handful of universities with term dates starting at that time.
Might be that attendance hasn't actually been confirmed. May have also missed the batch that go for NI checks.0 -

This has happened for me too! They said I was under the salary requirement to be an independant learner, but if I wrote a cover letter, I would get the grant and means-tested loan. Big lie!
Caz, I don't know if your daughter's already tried, but sometimes the student has to 'ask' (remind) their univeristy to confirm their attendance after enrolling. My uni's good for their admin, but I don't know if this is the same in others. It's massively fustrating but the best thing you can do is keep asking until it arrives.
And rasco, there's a complaints department, who seem to talk more sense than the advisors. I hope you find them handy, but you might wait awhile this time of year for them to reply.0 -
dont get me started, they didnt tell me that I had to send in all of my childrens birth certificates. They asked for bankstament with outgoing and incomings marked, did that and they need it again. aghhhh.
They also one time told me to send in my daughters birth certificate (the only one I am claiming childcare for) was told they hadnt got it, phoned them to say they had 10 mins later of checking got asked if its for a daughter born 2006 , YEP they had it all along.
I am at home today instead of UNI as hubby works shifts and couldnt get anyone to look after her, have managed up till now, she has a place waiting at private nursery BUT I cant afford £35 a day for her (hubby low wage) so had to take today off. Been told that once they get my childrens certifictes they will process it BUT that may take 6-8wks, before payment so next yr then lol. Whats annoying is untill today been told on phone they have everything LOL, why couldnt they check evidence when they recive application, apparently only just checking evidence for this now, 1 mth ago they had done the childcare evidence check just seems silly to me.

It says on the form you need to send your childs birth certificates for the additional grants. Don't blame the SLC for your inability to read.0

It's just the way it is, they "lost" forms from me multiple times and I didn't get a penny until february last year, same for another friend of mine. It's generally only guaranteed on the dates if all evidence has been sent, checked and approved by the deadline. In general universities are very understanding, so it shouldn't be a problem. Usually calling a few times gives them a kick up the !!!! to sort out one form, if not then you just have to wait.
They do state everything you need to send, and some forms go to different adresses. I made the same mistake with my birth certificate, but it does say it must be accompanied by the declaration.
Going ape !!!!!! might get the money a week faster, but it'll probably give you a huge phone bill and a heart attack too.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
I feel sorry for all of the students who get into such debt for finding an education which then hopefully leads to a career. I wish all of the students could have their education without running up such huge debts and tainting their life for a few years after they start their career thinking that there is no end in site to the debt which is seems to be always looming over them. If you are a rich kid, then obviously you won't have this trouble but for a poor bright student trying to get ahead in life and break the mould it is not always easy.0
