Confused buying windows XP on ebay...

This is going to sound like a daft question, but I don't know the answer and I'm confusing myself having read to much stuff on the topic....

I am looking to install Windows XP on a netbook via an external DVD drive - I understand that I cannot use my XP disc from my main PC (the netbook did not come with XP or windows).

So I understand that legally I need to purchase another copy of windows xp - the prices on ebay aren't too bad (less than £40) but I'm confused - I think I need to buy the disk with a key - but there are adverts selling the disc with a key and a piece of original hardware from an old computer (?????) that seem to be legit but are around £20ish....

I'm confused - I want my XP on my netbook to be legal but I want a good deal too - can anyone help??

Perhaps it's an OEM copy which legally has to be sold "with hardware".

I thought OEM had to be sold "with a pc" but perhaps people are managing to bend the rules by selling it just with PART of a PC!

The one's sold with a piece of hardware are OEM licences. They will be fine if genuine.

Which Netbook is it?

the ones selling it with a bit of old hardware are sticking to the terms and conditions (sort of ...) for OEM versions of Xp ( should only be sold with a piece of new hardware)

just bought one myself for my desk top installed fine and activated on line first time no probs at all

You can't legally use the one from your pc without removing it from your pc

If you were to do so you'd just have to activate it over the phone and be asked, is this copy installed on any other pc

You'd then answer no and have no problems.

Obviously you'd have to remove it from your pc for this to be legal
