long time ago but when I did it - they gave out a number that you could call daily if you wanted to work that day- after being a christmas casual I worked for three years as a student. not sure if they still do that - maybe ask one of the mgrs if such a thing exists. I would expect it does

I received an email from Royal Mail inviting me to attend the registration event on 12th Oct  2 days time!!!

I have read through everything and does this mean I've probably got a job because they are asking me to bring along lots of documents and a passport size photo :o

    Yes, very likely.

I went to the "interview" which was more like a group session. We saw some videos and did a test to see how fast we typed and if we understood what we needed to do. We all passed our tests and after they just checked if we had all the documentation and pictures. After that they told us they looked forward to working with us and that was it. Oh we also filled an application form and signed some consenments. Ever since that day I have wondered if that was the contract as we needed to read and sign loads of it. It just didn't look like a typical contract.
  • I too have just applied for christmas casual work.

I applied last year but was studying at the time so I couldn't commit to the full time hours they were asking for.

As previous posters have said, it was a very informal process with them just checking that you have brought all the right documents and asking which shift patterns that you prefer.

Just a quick question for people who have temped with Royal mail in previous years, do they offer an employment reference? or at least a confirmation that you worked there for future employers?

    Thanks alot

the most RM will do for any employee is confirm you worked for them for X period
  • ok thanks for that, I did think that would be the case.

Went along yesterday and the process was as follows.

You go to a desk and someone from the job centre runs through a checklist to make sure you have all your documents.

Then I was asked which shift I had applied for and then I was directed to a table. Someone from RM checked that all the paper work was filled in correctly and ran through my previous work history but nothing at all to worry about. None of those questions which most people dread at interviews!!! :D

I signed a form, she offered me work from 1st Dec - 23rd Dec :(

I thought it would be an immediate start through to Christmas!

Not too bothered really so I am taking it, I want to further my education and need money to pay for that, so this will definitely help out.

I will do an induction on my first night, I have to go in an hour earlier.

    Hello,
I applied about 2 weeks ago but have not heard anything back yet; do they actually get back to people and if so by what method?
  • If they get back to you then it will be by email
