Quick question - if my car is SORN and not kept on a public road, do I have to insure and/or MOT it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

In a word, no.
Insurance, MOT and Tax are required to drive / park on the public roads.
If the vehicle is on private property then you do not require them.

Thanks for your quick response - just what I wanted to hear :j******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
As the car is SORN, you're okay as long as it's not on a public road. If the vehicle wasn't SORN and was on private property nonetheless, Tax would still be needed but no insurance!0

OP where were you intending it to park it? These days it is not enough just to keep it off the public road, it must not be parked in a 'public place'. Perhaps the best definition of that is a place that the public has unhindered access to... although your drive is ok even if it has no gate.0

You can just get it insured for fire and theft, without driving cover.0

Having said that, if you're planning on keeping any car off the road, insurance would be advisable in case it gets nicked or torched or something....the insurer would probably need to know though! Not quite sure how insurance works alongside a SORN though...
That's what's happened! Some scrotey type drove past our house towing it this morning! Husband went after them and it had been abandoned down the road. Police have been here this afternoon. I was just double checking that we didn;t have to have insurance.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -

It was on a small tarmaced space that residents use - not a pay and display or anything. I'm not sure who owns it - prob the council, though. Thanks - worth thinking about.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
