If you are both unemployed and seeking work/available if one came up, you can make a claim for Income based JSA which will be affected by savings.

You can't claim income support unless your a single parent which you arn't or disabled.

Joint rate is circa £102 a week.

you would still have CTC and CHB on top of that and also your housing and council tax benefits

thank you both for your replies,

i handed in a jsa3 form to the job center on thursday (last week), they have still not received it, so it cant be processed. i have sorted out the council tax benefit, but we have a mortgage, so housing benefit is out of the question, thinking about mortgage help (interest only), but with out the processing of the jsa3 being done i cant apply for anything.

    any advise please ????

You can't claim help with your mortgage for the first 13 weeks so you need to contact your lender to make arrangements and to ask about changing to interest only.

Have you notified tax credits that your husband is now unemployed?
