A £50 fine to leave my contract

Hi,

I'm hoping someone out there can help me?

Over a year ago I signed up to ScottishPower on an online deal for a year. After this year ended they automatically put me onto another contract for a year which had a £50 fine if I left before the year was over. I recently moved to NPower and ScottishPower have charged me £50. Can they do this? I never actually agreed to a new contract with them and they did it automatically.

After the year ran out, what did you actuallyexpect them to do.

They would have written to you in the month before doing this anyway.

You should have dealt with it yourself just before the contract ran out. Shopped around and got your new supplier to
take over on the day the original contract ran out.

The auto renewal would be in the terms and conditions which yo agreed to at the start.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
