Getting nice, smooth walls

Hi
We recently moved into a house and stripped the wallpaper from the walls of one of the bedrooms. Under the wallpaper, some of the paint has come off so that the plaster is showing through.
If we just paint over this, the walls will look uneven and I like my walls nice and smooth! What options do we have? Is re-skimming the only option? Sounds a bit of a nightmare with removing radiators, skirting etc...
Thanks!

We had the same problem so we put up lining paper. Cheap and easy

Depending on the thickness of the partially-removed paint, could you smooth / sand down the edges of the paint so that there's a very slight gradient from the painted to removed-paint areas?0

I was just wondering the same thing as the room is huge and difficult to paper but there is quite a bit of flaky paint
Has anyone tried any of the special paints to smooth walls or are they just a con?0 -

The partially removed paint isn't very thick at all. Just looks like one layer maybe. Could try this - I'll give it a go on a test patch and see how it turns out.
I'm guessing all the rooms in the house will have the same problem once we remove the wallpaper and it'll cost a fortune in skimming!0
