MOT check under bonnet ?

Hi, i hope someone can help me. I recently had an MOT and then broke down the following week due to overheating. THe aa man found the case that goes over the engine had a screw missing in one corner and had been wedged with a rag. He thinks this may have knocked the cap of the bleeding point causes me to lose coolant. (he found the cap)

Now my question is would the casing been removing during an mot ?

Many thanks
Nicky

The plastic engine acoustic cover? Never had any of mine taken off during an MOT.

Can't see why they would remove the cover, there would be no requirement to in an MOT.

If it was a petrol engine they might have taken the cover off to get a better signal for their tacho pick up.

The chap that does my MoT's did tell me that they were not supposed to remove anything though.

Perhaps they leant on it and broke it? It could have been like that for years and you'd never have noticed. If the oil cap and dipstick fit in as normal with it removed I suggest to put the cover in the bin. It's there to make the engine bay look pretty more than anything.
  • thank your for your replies, looks like it wont be the garages fault then, maybe the previous owner. glad I took advice before I took it back! The aa man removed the cover and said I didnt need it too

    Thanks again everyone
