More memory 512Mb, Bigger HD 60Gb...
Probably the biggest question is.... what is it what do you do with the laptop?
Knowing what your reqiuirements are will help guide as to what will suit you best

I guess that one's kind of similar to the Toshiba in your initial post. Obviously with a case and software but it's not clear which software is full and which trial. Do you really want the software? Once you have a laptop you'll be perhaps be able to download free software to do some things you want anyway.
Most refurbished laptops would come with a manual and any original disks but I've seen at least on on laptopsdirect where it states "Missing manual and restore disks". (These might be available from the manufacturer).
Depending on what games you want to play you might be interested in this
(rather long) graphics card guide. It's difficult to get good graphics on budget machines.
Do you need to buy very soon? I think Toshiba are bringing out some new models soon so perhaps some prices will drop on older models.
Must go. Have to get my beauty sleep.

I would advise you to go for one that has the Toshiba Money back offer. If any bit of the laptop fails and you get it repair by a Toshiba repair centre you get a full refund.

If you can stretch to 500 quid the following maybe quite good:

They sell it instore in Staples for this price hence there are no delivery charges!!
Excellent price for a dual core machine.
Staples seem to have many quite notebooks between 300-500 quid so it maybe worth to visit one if you want to find notebook!!0
