I have just tried to report a thread (very unusual for me) but when I hit the red triangle I was asket to set up an account which requires me to give my real name, email etc and a password etc.
Is this necessary just to report an objectionable post/thread? I haven't done it yet because I want to know if I really have to.
Thanks.

Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

I've just tried reporting this post (just to try it out ... didn't go through with it, don't worry) - I didn't have any problems. Are you sure you're logged on?0

Yeah I'm sure - the thread was in DT... and I have been posting here, so...
Oh and I tried it on your post just now and again it asks me to create an account...
When I reported a spammer a while back I was able to do so without hassle...

No idea, Q - if you want to PM me the post you wanted to report I'll do it for you.0

Oh THAT one - reported that one earlier anyway :-)0

Do you have an email client on your computer?
The only reason I can think of that you'd require to input that stuff is if you're clicking on a 'mailto' link (which the abuse triangle essensially is) for the first time and Outlook/Outlook Express is running it's new account wizard.
What email do you prefer to use?0 -
my doesnt work either. I use yahoo. so I do it manually.even without setting up outlook I was able to open emails or use of report buttons - not anymore- excepting from having changed University login settings to BT broadband I haven't changed anything.0

(You may have to go through that page a few times - that page was made ages ago and doesn't take into account that SP2 often prevents the install.)
From then on clicking any email ('mailto') link should take you to your Yahoo account
BUT using the report triangles here can often hand over the address without the forum number in the Subject field - so you still might end up cutting and pasting that

OE. But I did report a spammer a while back and it worked fine, so something must have happened since then... Oh well I don't mind setting up the account, as long as it's nothing to worry about
