Loose laptop lid

How do laptop lids work?
The lid of my Toshiba laptop is loose. It opens/closes fine but won't stay in the upright position. Unless balanced exactly virtically, it flops backwards, or forwards (wrapping me on the knuckles as I [ouch!] type.)
Wedging it with paper folded thickly helps a bit.
Is it b*gg*r*d or can it be fixed and if so how? Seems a shame to repalce a machine which otherwise works fine.

Sounds like you need some new hinges for it...check ebay for some for your model

oh, and yes, it will need taking apart to change them

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

There are a few different types of laptop hinge around. Depending on your laptop you may have a panel above the keyboard (and covering the laptop hinges) that can be popped off. From there you may see a small nut on each hinge, tightening these should give you some rigidity back.
This is assuming your laptop is of this type of course.0
