Not many fans of carpetRight on this forum , most people can't see pass the permanent 50/60% off sales.Carpet right have got some offers on atm
I for one have nothing but great service from some hard wearing carpet bought from the stores.
The installers have all been good and at reasonable price.
Others will tell you that carpet right make their profits from expensive underlay and grippers, add a del cost .
This well might be true . You may well get cheaper gripper and free del from others but you will pay more for the carpet. Do your sums , forget about the different offers , its the final figure that counts.
Lots of fans of the ... small independant . Thats a mythical place where i live.
All the 'small' premises are .... small, more choice at a larger ( chain) store.Yes CarpetRight sells cheap nasty carpet , but you don't have to buy at that price , spend a little more .0 -
Thanks Wallbash. I've just read a bit more and see Carpet Right isn't very popular! The problem is, we really don't have much money and we've lived for the last year without any carpet upstairs, so we are now going to put it in the childrens rooms. At CR we can get it for less than £10 per SQ metre, plus another £5 m2 for the underlay, which does seem quite reasonable. They also have 10% off if you do it online which cancels out the delivery charge. We do plan to fit it ourselves too as we did it with a 2nd hand carpet in our old house.
So, do they not have a 'January Sale?' And is there any chance an independant could beat those prices?0 -
Don't forget VAT goes up in January.0

We have ended up with an internet company - http://www.qualitycarpetsdirect.com/ - after treking around all of the small, independent carpet companies in this area: the small independents just couldn't compete :undecided (we wanted to give them the work, but at £1k price difference...)
Saying that, we haven't had the carpet fitted yet (all 180sqm of it...) - so maybe I should come back and post AFTER they have done the job!

I've never had any problems with Carpet right. Yes, the underlay and grippers are more expensive but we just bought elsewhere for those items and the store was fine with that. The carpet is great and hardwearing and I'd certainly use them again.
We do have an independant close to us but they are v expensive in comparison.
As far as I'm aware they don't have a specific January sale0 -

That is very cheap , too cheap , sorry. Buy a carpet like that you cant expect to last .But its going into a bedroom and price is a factor.
Just don't come back and say in a few years CR carpets are rubbish
because at that price any carpet is not going to look good in a few years. 0 -

It's going in the children's bedrooms, remember. It'll have a glass of ribena on it the week after it's fitted. Get cheap stuff for now. You can always replace it when the kids are older.0 -
We've had our carpet right carpets down for just under 5 years, the ones upstairs in the bedrooms are pretty much like new, but down in the living room it has obviously got the squished affect, so not so fluffy as it was originally, but otherwise I have no bad words to say about carpet right. We bought our carpet to take away and we sourced underlay and laid ourselves. But my mum has just done hers from carpet right and they gave her the number to the fitter and let her ring him (not sure every carpet right would do this and she was lucky), the fitter supplied the grippers and we got the underlay from ebay. You could always takeaway the carpet and then look in your local paper for fitters.0

We got ours from Carpet right and it's been great, he even gave me an extra 10% forces discount.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Good point about the VAT, hadn't thought of that! I googled last night and found cheaper, better underlay, so we can get that elsewhere and our cheap carpet right carpets! I've sent off for some samples from CR and 2 of them do seem a bit cheap, but the others are fine. And, as you rightly pointed out Casper, it's gonna end up with all sorts of c*** all over it in 1 & 4 yr olds rooms! Thanks for the input. x x0
